September 14, 2010  Regular Meeting

The Crow Wing Township Board of Supervisors held its Regular Meeting on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. at the Crow Wing Town Hall.  Present were Chairman Greg Smith, Supervisors Mark Platta and Dave Schultz, Clerk Virginia Rogers, Treasurer Susan Goodew and those on the attached public roster.

No gopher bounties were claimed.

The Planning Commission has requested direction on what to do about concerns with the Big Wood Timber property. It appears that many of the trees that were planted have not survived and there are vehicles and/or trailers parked in the setback area along Greenwood Street. A letter will be sent to Big Wood letting them know about that we have noticed these problems and that they should be corrected immediately.

Gary Drotts was present from the MN DNR. He is the Area Wildlife Manager and shared an idea about procuring 120 acres of Potlatch property adjacent to the Ray Cook Wildlife Management Area. He asked for the Town Board's approval of purchasing this property, which would allow for foot travel around the edge of the lake in the reserve. Mark made a motion to express approval of the plan. The motion was seconded by Greg and carried by unanimous vote.

Mark mentioned two issues with in-home day care businesses in the township. One is on Buffalo Creek Road where there are cars being parked in the road right of way on a daily basis. The other has an off-premise sign on Brian's Way where it meets Business 371. Mark will get the addresses for these properties and information on what the ordinance says about off-premise signs for the next meeting.

Susie gave the treasurer's report.

Dave gave the road report.  The cement in the ditch on Ariellle Drive has been removed. Water is running from a driveway onto Erin Road and leaving sand on the cul de sac. Dave's 4-wheeler is in the shop for repair. It broke down while he was using it on a township road. He asked that if he continues to use it for township work that the township either pay for its use or for the repairs.

The minutes of the August 31, 2010 regular meeting were reviewed. It was noted that Carl Boeder promised to come back to mow the wet areas on the roadways as soon as conditions allow. Greg made a motion to approve the minutes as written, with that addition. The motion was seconded by Dave and carried by unanimous vote.

Correspondence was reviewed.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:45 p.m. by general consent.
