Board of Equalization and Appeals 2015

April 23, 2015, Thursday

Meeting was called to order by Chairman Greg Smith at 10:00.

The pledge of allegiance was recited.

All of Crow Wing Township Supervisors, Greg Smith, Mark Platta and Dave Schultz were in attendance. Bob Miller and Sam were in attendance from the Crow Wing County Land Services Department. Township Treasurer Sue Kern was also in attendance to record the meeting minutes.

Resident Brian Folden came to the meeting to observe  meeting procedures and reviewed the numbers.  He bought a home here in the township last July.

Bob Miller presented a "Local Board of Appeal and Equalization" fact sheet and reviewed the calculations with the Supervisors. The details of the fact sheet were discussed in detail. The aforementioned fact sheet is attached as addendum A.

Bob Miller discussed two specific cases that had been brought to his attention by township residents. Those residents were not in attendance at today’s meeting.

Case 1

Resident Scott Tisdell at 7002 Wetherbee Road, Parcel #540284200000009.

Mr. Tisdell's property value had been at $120,600 and had been raised to value $131,100.  Someone from the county visited the resident last Fall and thought the building interior was finished.  It is not completed.  He intends to build a home there someday soon.  It was determined the percentage completed is at 80% and a change is being proposed to go from the $131,100 to $123,000 because it is not completed.  The owner has agreed to this amount.

Motion was made by Mark Platta, seconded by Greg Smith to put the value of the property at $123,000.

Motion passed unanimously.

Case 2

Resident Heath Larson at 11259 Town Hall Street, Parcel #561080010060009.

Mr. Larson has "gutted" the interior of the home.  It had been determined to be at 66% completed.  The building does not have insulation or drywall in parts of it.   It is proposed to be changed to 56% completion.  The value had been set at $169,300 and the proposed drop at $151,400.  The owner previously stated he would be happy with this decision.

Motion was made by Mark Platta and seconded by Dave Schultz to put the value of the property at $151,400.

Motion passed unanimously.

Meeting was adjourned by Chairman Greg Smith at 10:50.

Sue Kern, Treasurer

In attendance in Clerk Susan Amick's absence
